The forest area is well maintained, some of the trail path we could either bike or hike. The trail paths are good and there are many different things to view at. From our understand this forest was named after a school headmaster loss his life during duty in this forest and hence they had renamed it.

馬陵溫泉 Maling Wild Hot Spring

After 4 days camping around Guguan, one of our planned was to search for a wild hot spring around Guguan. We headed into the Dajia River 大甲溪 in search for an unknown hot spring who had previously been explored by other hikers

Guess it was my mistake, I did not search further as I took the information back in 2010 and when we arrived at the hot spring the whole river bed was different. I could not find the hot spring according to  the information. It seems the hot spring had been covered by landslide however I did find traces of hot spring but was not good and safe enough to have fun but only a warm feet dip.

壽山 ShouShan Forest Jog and Hike

Been living in Kaoshiung for few years, finally this morning decided to head to Shoushan for a cross-country ran with Siboy. Arrived at Shoushan Trail head around 750am and started the the ran. To my surprise, the whole trail was fully paved with wooden platform. Those wooden steps did make the ran rather tough, ended up hiking up the steps instead.

Apparently from the information map, there are few others different trails in ShouShan. The trail we took started from Dragon Emperor Trail Head (Green) and we did a loop, extended to Lotus Cave, Rocky Banyan and back.

We completed the whole trail in 2.5hrs and ended our session with a cold spring dip before the trail head entrance. The Trail was rather easy but do bring sufficient water

佳樂水風景區 Jialeshui Scenic Area

A tour along the coast to view at various rock formations, you can bike, hike or just take one of their so call coach.

My kids first visited Jialeshui was back in 2006. On 19 Jun 2010, I took them a different route, a short hike to have a bird's eye view of the whole area. Do note this short trail can be dangerous.

小鬼湖 Little Ghost Lake Trail

Spencer
Sat 3rd Jan 2009 was the most memorial MTB ride I ever had. I like to thanks the Formosan Serow Biking Club 長鬃山羊單車俱樂部for inviting me to such a trail exploration ride in Pingtung County, Wutai up in the mountain 1400m high to Little Ghost Lake (2300m).

Though we did not get to the destination but the whole journey was living on the edge, a foot away from a 1000mtrs hill drop however it was rewarded with a magnificent breath taking view.

Little Ghost Lake
小鬼湖 aka Snake Lake is a scared lake from the aboriginal Rukai  Tribe legend. It was said the lake lived a big white snake that guard this lake. One day a group of aboriginal girls visited the lake and saw the snake, most of the girls fled except one named Balhenge,  who found the snake was a handsome Rukai man. Later she and the snake felt in love but was opposed by the villages and parents. Somehow love was blind and she left the village. Standing at the lake and facing the village she sang her sorrow love song. Today many older Rukai generation ladies still believes in this legend and on their last breath, they felt their soul wandering to this lake.

Syue Shan 雪山 Guide

April Fool 2012 Adventure
Our recent 3 days 2 nights trip to Syue Shan Summit has been well rewarded. Syue Shan trail is indeed beautiful especially the Black Forest but the ascend can be tedious and painful for many who climb too fast, use the wrong backpack or packed too much. These were some the observations on some climbers I found on this trip.

Below are few tips I have prepared myself and hope to guide amateur on this climb and things to prepare. Do note this is ideal only for non-snowing season.

浸水營古道 JinShuiYing by MTB

This is the first stage of our 3 days 2 night cross-island coastal ride with my dog, Siboy. We supposed to cover 90km in 3 days. You can view the planning HERE. When we arrived at the trail head, I was surprised they have put up a sign NO BIKES allowed. Few months ago, we were hiking this trail and there was no such sign. Well, nothing is going to stop me now, after 2 yrs of desire and weeks of planning and waiting, I just have do it.

Solo MTB Southern Cross-Island Coastal Trip (Planning)

Read about the trip
Day 1 浸水營古道 JinShuiYing
Day 2 阿郎壹古道 ALangYi

Foul weather has sat in again and again and there is probably a typhoon this weekend. Personally I love outdoor activities during foul weather but for this trip, I have to be careful as I am doing alone. The rivers that I will be crossing might cause the whole plan to backfire and I might get myself trapped. So this is one time I have to respect Mother Nature. Anyway it gives me time to write and log about my planning for this trip also allow me to look into my gears second time. I do hope the rivers that I need to cross is not flooded after the typhoon.

浸水營古道 JinShuiYing Trail

8 May 2011

栗松溫泉 Lisong Hot Spring

Last Visited 4 Mar 2011
We can't denied this is the most beautiful hot spring we have been. Hot spring flowing down the cliff creates a magical illusion to the area. Crystal clear river water running under your feet. It is definitely worth a visit. To get there you will need to arrange private transportation and since the Southern East-West Highway Crossing 20 is still damage from 8 Aug 2009 Marokot typhoon, the only road accessible is from Taitung.

哈尤溪溫泉 Hayou River Hot Spring

Two days one night journey on our mountain bikes in search of a hot spring on a river bed that has been raised 30mtr after the last Typhoon in 8 Aug 2009. No mountain to cross but countless of river crossing.

12 Feb 2011, total 11 bikers and our dog, Siboy undertook a journey that covered 16.4Km deep into the mountain valley and probably the only bikers that rode that deep inside.

東卯山 Dongmao Shan

26 Dec 2010 東卯山 Dongmao Shan, Taichung
Elevation 1690.5m, Distance 7.5Km one way, Temperature 4.9deg C

On Boxing Day, the family has decided to joined Kaohsiung Mountaineering Group for this trip. For the price of NT500 per person is worth every penny. It includes lunch (fried noodle, Kimchi  and white reddish soup), insurance and transport from Kaohsiung City to Taichung. However you will need to drag yourself out from bed at 4.30am just to catch the 5.40am coach which only picks up at 3 locations.

Sunrise at Sheding Nature Park 社頂自然公園

28 Nov 2010
Sheding Nature Park is located just beside Kenting National Park. It is not a very big park and can be covered in half a day's walk. Entrance is FOC so anyone can just stroll in. Last year we found a lovely place in this park overlooking the Pacific Ocean and thought it was a great idea to camp overnight just to watch sunrise the next morning. Finally we decided to embark this short trip to the park.

Located in Lion's Head Mountain Scenic Area, the hike was unexpected as the road was mainly tar road. We could actually drive up but we are not sure if it is allowed. So on a hot summer day we decided to hike.
