We can't denied this is the most beautiful hot spring we have been. Hot spring flowing down the cliff creates a magical illusion to the area. Crystal clear river water running under your feet. It is definitely worth a visit. To get there you will need to arrange private transportation and since the Southern East-West Highway Crossing 20 is still damage from 8 Aug 2009 Marokot typhoon, the only road accessible is from Taitung.
To get there from Taitung you will need to drive Highway 20 pass a tea and cabbage plantation to this GPS loc N23 11.910 E121 01.650. From the main road follow the trunk road 1.7Km leading down to an aboriginal settlement which is look after by an elderly couple and their son. They will request for NT200 parking fee, we gladly gave them and they allowed us to camp on their land. However there is no electricity or water supply.
road to trail head
aboriginal land - we camped here for a night
The trail head to the hot spring is around 1.5Km downhill. Be warned it can get pretty steep at some places. It took us around 50mins to get back up.
There are limited places to camp on river bed. The only possible places are just at the exit of the trial and directly across the river. Probably you can pitch 4 to 5 tents.
from the trail exit, cross the river and take the left route which will lead to the hot spring.
The river water was freezing cold and numb our legs in seconds
the last obstacle is a boulder that sits across the hot spring. Leave all your stuff on the boulder, there are ropes to help you down, watch the vid below how I got across to the hot spring.
Suggest equipment
- gloves for rope handling
- wet shoes or saddle
- wet gears
- zip-loc for all your sensitive stuff
- hot tea
