谷明光(小谷) comes from Taiwan's aboriginal Bunun tribe. After his attempt to live the life in Taipei failed because of adaptation to fast living pace, he decided to head back to the mountains. From there, he started and slowly built his mountaineering services for the public.
He had guided many trips in different parts of Taiwan, Janet from Fun Taiwan was one of his client. Unlike many tour guides, 小谷 respects the mountain as how his ancenstor would. At times he would conduct ancestral prayer with the group before the journey. Every step of his journey up the mountain is slow and easy, safety is his first objective. Along the way he will show you signs of past civilisation, flora and fauna. His ideal of mountain climbing is not quickly scale a mountain but slowly enjoy the journey up.
小谷 is a trained and registered guide, he has past training such as Yushan guide, Mountaineering Rescue, Snow Rescue and Emergency Rescue. At times Taiwan's rescue team would still seek his services because of his experience around Taiwan's mountain. In 2007 he was the first in his team to scale the North America, Mt McKinley 6194m.
Currently he is the best guide to look for if you plan to attempt any mountain in Taiwan. His dedicated team is able to provide services from pick-up services, portering up to 30kg, preparation of aboriginal meals and documentation such as Permits and Insurance.
