Over last few years, camping in Taiwan has taken a fave among the locals especially RV camping. Most of the weekend the locals would head out to the campsites for a family camping or BBQ gathering. We prefer to go camping during week days as there is lesser crowd and you have a choice to choose your favourite spot to pitch up your tent.
However if you are coming over Taiwan or you are an expat tied up with work and can only camp out during weekends or public holidays, the best option is to call the campsite and make a reservation.
Taiwan holidays follows the traditional Chinese holidays, like Lunar Chinese New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, Dragon Boat Festival etc. One of the most notorious time the locals would head out camping is during Chinese Lunar New Year. During this period of time, the holidays will stretch from 5 to 10 days. The campsite will be full of tent and you will be rubbing shoulder with your neighbours. Also to look out for holidays that falls between the week that stretches from 3 to 4 days. During this period of time, most campsite owners would take advantage and hike up the camp fee. Another period of holidays is the school break, the kids will be making plans for group camping. This are also one the period that you will not have peace at the campsite. Kids will be shouting, running and pulling each other hair. Here is the list of holidays for your pleasure.
